General Electric Power Systems
Six Sigma
GE Power Systems wanted a more efficient way to create employee expertise in their total quality management (Six Sigma) program. Their ‘black belts’ who provided the subject-matter expertise were engaged in managing Six Sigma projects, leaving little time for the two-week-long classroom-delivered course. GE Power Systems also wanted to identify strategies to re-purpose the content for various internal audiences since each group implements this concept in a slightly different way.
GLS created an animated mentor and other experts operating within a detective theme to guide learners through the Six Sigma process. Students select from two styles of instruction: case studies that explain concepts or simulations in which learners are investigators who use various resources to solve a Six Sigma case. The modular course design included reusable Learning Objects for easy web adaptation or re-purposing for a different audience.
